Computer security in the news, 9/7/09

A somewhat inconclusive article about companies who hack into people’s email accounts. From the article, it does not appear that any specific security flaw is being exploited; rather, the companies use social engineering (especially phishing attacks) and password guessing to break into people’s accounts.

The article did mention a list of whitepapers by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, discussing (among others) such things as locational privacy, fighting censorship around the world, and covering your search tracks.
